Biddingrulesarenearlythesame,althoughincontractbridgebiddingmanycomplexartificialbidsandbiddingsystemshaveevolved.

Thebidding,playandlawsaresimilartocontractbridge.

ThedealeropensthebiddingandmustdeclaretowinatleasttheoddtrickinatrumpsuitoratNo-trumps;hecannotpassthebid.Abidishigherifitcontractsforahighernumberofpoints(ignoringdoubles)ratherthanahighernumberoftricks.Asanexample3Spades(27points)beats4Clubs(24points).
