Inthebasementofasmallfamilyhomenestledatop“PechinHill”,Sullivan,“Sully”D’Amicosetouttoprovidehisneighborswithhomedeliveryoffreshcutmeatsandeggs.Passionatelymindfulofthevalueofapenny,Sully’spriceswereaclearindicationthatheintendedtorealizehischildhooddream.Sullyhadgrownupandsurvivedthroughthemostformidableyearsinournationshistory.Beginningin1929withthecrashoftheStockMarketuntil1941withAmerica’sentryintoWorldWarII,theGreatDepressionaffectedtheentirecountry.Sullyconcernedhimselfmostwiththedevastationsufferedbyhisneighborsandfamily,andsoitwasduringthoseyears,asayoungboy,thatSullydreamtofadaywheneverymancouldholdhisheadhighandcastoffthehumilityofthosetryingtimes.Neverfarfromhisthoughtswasthedespaircausedbysuchpoverty.Sullywouldoftensay“Amancan’tgotoworkifhehasnodignity,andamancan’thavedignityifheishungryandunabletofeedhisfamily.Withthehelpandsupporttohisfamily,friendsandemployeesthatsmallbasementoperationevolvedintoalargegrocerystoreandeventuallybecameknownacrossthecountryandaroundtheworldas“PechinShoppingVillage”,wherecustomerscouldpurchasetheirgroceries,clothes,shoes,sportinggoodsetc.,forafractionofthecosttheywouldpayelsewhere.ShoppingatPechinoftenmeantavisittotheSnackBar,whichhadbecomefamousforitslowpricedcupofcoffeeandhamburgers.Duetocustomerdemand,theSnackBarwasmovedacrosstheparkinglottoalargerspaceandbecamethe“PechinCafeteria.Today,inaneverychangingeconomy,whilereamingtruetothetraditionandphilosophy,PechinSuperFoodsMarketoperatesasastapleofthecommunitybyanewgenerationoffamilyandfriends.Thepassingof“Sully”inFebruary2005lefthisfamilywithmanyquestions,nottheleastofwhichwas,“Howdowehonorsuchaninspiredman?”OvertheyearsSully’sloveoffiretrucksbecamewellknowasheamassedacollectionwellintothehundreds.Soitiswithgreatprideandinlovingmemoryof“Sully”thatthePechinFirehouseRestaurantandCateringCompanywasopened.
