IUBIntroduction
Bahawalpurhasalwaysbeenaseatofhigherlearning.UchSharif(anearbyancienttown)hadoneofthelargestuniversitiesintheworldwherescholarsfromallovertheworldusedtocomeforstudies.AsacontinuationofthistraditionareligiousUniversity(JamiaAbbasia)wasestablishedinBahawalpurin1925,followingtheacademicpursuitsofJamiaAl-Azhar,Egypt.TherenownedscholarsspreadthebeaconofIslambyteachingTafseerofQuran,Hadith,Fiqah,andHistoryalongwithothercontemporarysubjects.

Inviewofthechangingscenario,JamiaAbbasiawasdeclaredasageneralUniversityin1975,andwasrenamedasTheIslamiaUniversityofBahawalpur.Initially,itstartedfunctioningatAbbasiaandKhawajaFareedCampuseswithtenDepartments.Inordertoconstructamodernandself-containedcampus,1250acresoflandwasallottedtotheUniversityonHasilpurRoadabouteightkilometersawayfromthecitycenter.

Thesandduneshavebeenconvertedintowell-builtfaculties,greenlawns,hostels,residentialcolony,farmsandorchards.ItisknownasBaghdad-ul-JadeedCampus.TheUniversitywasstartedwithtendepartmentsandnowthisnumberhasincreasedto45offering74disciplines.ApartfromconventionaldisciplinesofReligiousAffairs,Languages,SocialandBasicSciences;educationisbeingimpartedintheareasofBusinessAdministration,Engineering,Agriculture,VeterinarySciences,Computer,Law,Education,FineArts,Pharmacy,LifeSciencesandSportsSciences.TheUniversityvaluesqualityeducationratherthanquantity.Towardsachievementofthisendateamofhighlyqualifiedandcommittedfacultymembershavebeenengaged.Moreover,researchisbeingmadecornerstoneoftheeducationalphilosophy.

Inordertoprovideopportunitiesofhighereducationtotheyouthattheirdoorstep,twocampuseswereestablishedatRahimYarKhanandBahawalnagarin2005.Initially,DepartmentsofManagementSciencesandComputerScience&InformationTechnologywereestablishedforwhichresponsewasveryencouraging.ThenumberofDepartmentsatBahawalnagarandRahimYarKhanCampuseshavebeenincreasedtosevenandsix,respectively.
